The Happiness That Doesn't Quite Stay
Things are good. Genuinely good, by most measures.
And yet there's this low-grade restlessness that doesn't leave. A sense that something is slightly off-key - that real contentment is somewhere nearby but keeps not quite arriving.
You have moments of happiness, sometimes real ones. But they don't settle into anything lasting. They visit, and then they go. And you're left wondering whether you're missing something obvious, or whether this is simply what adult life feels like.
So you look for more reasons. A new goal, a change of scene, a better routine. You read about gratitude, about presence, about the science of joy. Some of it lands, briefly.
Then the familiar flatness returns. Not depression. Not crisis. Just a quiet absence of the ease you're sure you're capable of feeling.
The word that comes to mind, if you're honest, is fine. Not bad. Not great. Fine.
And you know in your bones that you were made for more than fine.
Why Chasing It Doesn't Work
The self-help approach to happiness is almost entirely conscious-level work. Count your blessings. Reframe your thinking. Build habits that correlate with well-being.
And these things aren't wrong - they're backed by research and they produce real, measurable results for the 5% of your mind that reads the research and applies it.
The other 95% is doing something else entirely.
Your subconscious doesn't process happiness as a goal to be achieved. It processes it as a state - one that's either consistent with what it believes to be true about you and your life, or isn't.
And if it carries an old, deeply absorbed belief that happiness is fragile, temporary, something that gets taken away - or that you specifically are not someone who gets to have it, for reasons that were never spoken aloud but were felt very clearly - then no amount of conscious gratitude practice is going to override that.
The subconscious will keep producing exactly the emotional baseline it believes is appropriate for you.
This isn't a character flaw or a failure of effort. It's a program running at a level that conscious tools simply don't reach.
The happiness you're looking for isn't blocked by a lack of reasons. It's blocked by an instruction, buried deep, that hasn't been updated yet.
The Level Where It Actually Changes
I came across Inner Influencing at a point when I'd worked on happiness enough to understand why it kept slipping. The practices helped - briefly. But the baseline kept returning.
What I found in Inner Influencing was something that operated on a completely different logic, and I mean that precisely. Not a better technique for the conscious mind, but a way of reaching the subconscious directly with an instruction it could actually receive.
That precision led me to train as a Master Practitioner. It's now the core of everything I do with clients.
Inner Influencing is an established methodology - not a trend, not a repackaged affirmation system. It works by structuring a statement in a particular way that bypasses the conscious mind's usual filtering process and lands directly with the subconscious.
The subconscious doesn't need to be convinced or gradually won over. It needs a clear, correctly formed instruction. When it receives one, it updates. It's less like therapy and more like giving a very specific piece of software a new command.
The entry point uses a trigger phrase - "Purple Cow" - deliberately chosen for its unusualness. When the subconscious encounters something that doesn't fit ordinary mental patterns, it pays a different quality of attention. That's the opening. One statement, said once, and the instruction goes in at the level where the old program lives.
Try It for Yourself
Read each statement below slowly - out loud if you can. Say it once, then stop. Let a moment of quiet settle before moving to the next.
Notice whatever comes - even something faint. A slight lift. A thought that doesn't pull toward its usual grey. Something that feels, even briefly, like the beginning of ease.
Statement 1 - The Surface Pattern
"Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will get rid of all the ways I block, dampen, or push away genuine happiness and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful. Purple Cow."
Statement 2 - The Hidden Layer
"Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will get rid of any belief that happiness isn't safe, that it won't last, or that I am not someone who gets to have it, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful. Purple Cow."
Statement 3 - Opening the Positive
"Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will make it easy for me to feel genuinely happy and at ease as my natural, everyday state - not as something I have to earn or maintain, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful. Purple Cow."
What Did You Notice?
Even the smallest shift - a moment of lightness, a thought that went somewhere unexpected, a quiet that felt different from the usual quiet - that was your subconscious receiving a direct instruction.
It doesn't always feel significant in the moment. Sometimes the change shows up later, in the way a morning feels, or in the way something that usually pulls at you simply doesn't.
Happiness as a baseline - not something to chase or construct, but something that's simply there - is less about adding more and more about clearing what's been sitting in the way.
That clearing starts at the subconscious level. And you've already begun.
The Free Discovery Kit Takes You Further
What you just experienced was the first level. The Inner Influencing Discovery Kit goes deeper — it explains the science behind what just shifted, gives you more tools to work with, and opens the door to clearing the older layers that keep happiness feeling conditional: the absorbed beliefs about what kind of life you're allowed to have and whether you're someone who gets to feel genuinely good.
It's free. And if something just felt even slightly lighter than "fine" — that's worth following.
