When the Past Won't Stay There
It surfaces at odd moments.
A tone of voice. A particular kind of silence. Something that shouldn't carry weight but does.
You're not thinking about the past - and then suddenly you are, pulled back without choosing it. The old feelings arriving as fresh as if no time had passed at all.
You've done the work. You understand what happened, have named it, have traced how it shaped you.
And still it moves through you like it happened recently. Like understanding it hasn't been enough to release it.
The tools that are supposed to help - journaling, therapy, meditation, forgiveness practices - have given you real things. Clarity, context, a more compassionate relationship with your own story.
But somewhere underneath all that understanding, the wound still has weight.
You can talk about it without crying now. That's not the same as it being gone.
And if you've started to wonder whether some things simply don't leave - whether healing from the past is something that only ever happens partially - I want you to hear this: it's not that you can't heal. It's that the tools haven't been reaching the right level.
Why Understanding Isn't the Same as Releasing
Most healing approaches are built on a reasonable premise: if you understand what happened, where it came from, and how it affected you, the grip it has will loosen.
And understanding does help. It changes the story you tell yourself, creates compassion where there was confusion, brings order to what felt chaotic.
But it operates at the conscious level - the 5% of your mental activity that can think, analyze, reframe, and reflect.
The other 95% - your subconscious - doesn't heal through understanding. It stored the original experience not as a narrative but as a felt reality: a body response, an emotional charge, a set of conclusions about what the world is like and what you can expect from it.
Those conclusions became programs. And programs don't update because the conscious mind has reached a new interpretation of events. They update when they receive a new instruction at the level where they live.
This is why you can understand your past completely and still feel its weight. The subconscious isn't holding the story - it's holding the charge.
The emotional residue. The protective patterns. The beliefs that formed in response to what happened.
Talking about it reaches the story. It doesn't always reach what's underneath the story. And that's the part that needs to change for healing to feel complete.
Reaching What the Story Can't Touch
I came across Inner Influencing at a point when I'd done enough of my own personal work to know what a plateau felt like - that place where you've understood something fully and it still has weight.
What I found was something that operated on a completely different logic from anything I'd tried before. Not a way of revisiting the past or reprocessing the story, but a way of reaching the subconscious directly and updating the charge it was still carrying.
That precision led me to train as a Master Practitioner. It's now the core of everything I do with clients.
Inner Influencing is an established methodology built to communicate directly with the subconscious mind - to deliver a clear instruction in a form it can receive and act on, without the resistance that typically intercepts new input before it lands. It doesn't ask the subconscious to revisit what happened or reprocess the story. It gives it a direct instruction to release the charge, update the program, and move forward.
The subconscious doesn't need to understand why. It just needs the right signal.
That signal comes through a specific statement structure using a trigger phrase - "Purple Cow" - embedded deliberately. The phrase is unusual by design: it signals to the subconscious that what's coming isn't ordinary thought but a direct instruction, deserving a different quality of attention. One statement. Said once. And the layer that understanding couldn't quite reach gets a new command.
Try It for Yourself
Read each statement below slowly - out loud if you can. Say it once, then stop. Let a moment of quiet follow before moving to the next.
Notice whatever comes up - a softening, a release of breath, a sense that something old just shifted slightly in its seat.
Statement 1 - The Surface Pattern
"Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will get rid of all the emotional pain, hurt, and residue I am still carrying from the past and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful. Purple Cow."
Statement 2 - The Hidden Layer
"Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will get rid of any belief that I must hold onto what happened in order to honor it, protect myself, or make sense of who I am, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful. Purple Cow."
Statement 3 - Opening the Positive
"Subconscious, when I say Purple Cow, you will make it easy for me to move forward freely - carrying the wisdom of what I've been through without the weight of it, and keep me free from that from now on, and do this in a way that is natural, easy, instant and graceful. Purple Cow."
What Did You Notice?
Even the smallest shift - a moment of lightness where there was heaviness, a thought about the past that didn't pull the way it usually does - that was your subconscious receiving a new instruction at the level where the old charge lives.
Healing at this level doesn't always feel dramatic in the moment. Sometimes it's just a quiet. A sense that something put itself down.
The past doesn't have to stay as heavy as it's been. Not because you stop acknowledging what happened, but because the subconscious stops carrying it as an active charge.
That distinction - between remembering and being held by - is where real healing lives. And it's exactly the level Inner Influencing reaches.
The Free Discovery Kit Takes You Further
What you just tried was the first level. The Inner Influencing Discovery Kit goes deeper — it explains the science behind what just happened, gives you more tools to work with, and opens the door to clearing the older layers: the protective patterns, the beliefs, and the emotional charge the past left behind that understanding alone hasn't been able to release.
It's free. And if something old felt even slightly lighter just now — that's the beginning of real healing.
